Pumpkin Patch

I am not usually a “pumpkin patch” kind of girl… millions of screaming preschoolers… frustrated parents… stinky animals… mud…

However, this year was different! It rained all night long – I just knew we were not going to have to go… I was thrilled! Did not care if it was going to be “school as usual” or a teacher’s workday – either would be fine with me… yet, when I got to school, I learned that we were going regardless of the weather… I started thinking… I am not assigned to a class… What if I did not go…

Yet, Caleb really wanted to go… I offered him a trip to Target complete with a free toy… He did not buy it. He wanted a pumpkin and a trip thru a corn maze… so, I loaded him into the car while tell him that I was NOT going to stand around in the rain “so, prepare yourself that we will be NOT staying for very long…”

We got there around 9:30 and stayed until after noon… We had a blast! Caleb went through the corn maze. He picked his two ears of corn and about a half a ton of soybeans for the stinky animals… It had rained just enough to ensure there was no dust, but there was also no mud… Caleb took me up to the animals and instructed me on which animal to feed (he would never feed one because they might “accidentally bite his fingers off”). The animals actually ate his food this year. He fed the two horses, the pigs, the goats, the sheep, the rooster, the bunny, the cows and even the big bull. He talked to each one of them and swears that they listened to him.

Caleb played on their playground for about 20 minutes and wore himself out. When we finally got on the hayride, I was surprised that he never went to sleep – but he was close several times. The hayride was long and I enjoyed getting to take to a couple of co-workers. At the end Caleb chose both a pumpkin for him and for me – tiny ones – he thinks they are cute. Caleb loved every second of the day.

Okay – so I usually hate stinky farms – but we had a good time… Thanks to Evelyn for making me go…. thanks to Caleb for making it fun! (the photo was taken by a great friend and co-teacher Jill Boesecker! Thanks, Jilly!)
